Each dining experience inside a Disney hotel is themed to that hotel. Since Storytellers is inside the Grand Californian, this restaurant exudes old west folklore and the characters you will see fit in with that theme.

Like with most things Disney, you are paying for the experience. On that front, Disney delivers. The characters come out and greet you at your table and they play games with the kids. The thing we found out though is that the characters don’t visit you as much when they see a party of 2 with no kids! We’re not complaining though. 🙂 Chip and Dale said hi to us and that was enough. Storytellers Cafe also has Meeko, Koda and Kenai as characters you can meet.

The food wasn’t bad. American breakfast staples are present like bacon, sausage, fruit and cereal along with the popular Mickey Waffle. The hash browns were surprisingly flavorful and the omelet station was a nice addition. Their French Toast might be too sweet for some but I thought it was delicious. Other than that, I didn’t really feel like going back for too much more.

If it’s just food you’re after, there are better options for the price, but they call it “Character Dining” for a reason. Think of it as a time-saver if you and your family are after those precious character photos. We recommend choosing one morning to splurge on a character dining experience. Remember, you don’t have to be a guest of a Disney hotel to visit their restaurants! Storyteller tends to be a more mellow experience, while Goofy’s Kitchen is a bit more raucous.

Priority Seating [reservations] can be made up to 60 days in advance for restaurants in the Disneyland Resort! All you need to do is call 714-781-DINE. More information on choices here.

Character Dining is also available at several locations throughout the Disneyland® Resort, and again, all you would need to do is call 714-781-DINE to make your reservations. Below is a list of current locations which feature this service:

+ Disneyland® Park – “Minnie & Friends – Breakfast in the Park” at the Plaza Inn,
+ Disney’s California Adventure® Park – “Ariel’s Disney Princess Celebration” at Ariel’s Grotto,
+ Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel® & Spa – Chip ‘n Dale Critter Breakfast at Storytellers Cafe,
+ Disneyland® Hotel – Goofy’s Kitchen, and
+ Disney’s Paradise Pier® Hotel – Lilo & Stitch Aloha Breakfast at Disney’s PCH Grill.

That’s all for now. Stand by for more reviews and posts and maybe we’ll see you in the parks!
