First of all, congratulations to all the runners who participated in this last weekend's Disneyland Half Marathon events! It was great seeing medals being worn so proudly all around town. My wife and I got to participate in the 1/2 marathon and it was definitely something we will never forget. The weekend started off with the Health and Fitness Expo where runners picked up their race bibs and got to stock up on all sorts of supplies from headbands to compression socks. As a 1/2 marathon newbie, it was also a great resource for all of our running questions. There were scheduled sessions where expert runners shared advice and tips on how to survive -- I mean -- finish your race: There were also Photo-ops with the castle and Dumbo for the people attempting the Dumbo Double Dare, which is a 10k race one day and the 1/2 marathon the following day! On display at the runDisney booth were all the medals you could go home with if you ran all their races. Seeing them displayed all together makes a great argument on signing up for all the races doesn't it? On the day of the race, runners had to be in their corral no later than 5AM so luckily, we got to stay at the HoJo, where it was just a short walk to the starting point. At the staging area, the atmosphere was exciting and upbeat. Runners did their last-minute preparations and got ready for the 13.1 miles ahead: It wouldn't be a Disney race without costumes right? Here is just a small sample of what we saw: Time to head to our corral! Here we go! Mickey and Minnie were wishing us luck: Running through the parks is always a cool experience and there are plenty of characters out taking pictures with all the runners There were mile markers to remind everyone how much further to go: Sorry for the lack of pictures during the race. It was difficult for me to keep a steady hand while gasping for air and hanging on to my wife, so that she wouldn't leave me behind. 🙂 However, this was my favorite picture I took this weekend: THE FINISH LINE! Actually the real finish line was at the hotel in our nice comfy bed! The pain was worth it. Until next time! Trottin' Tommy Visiting Disneyland and want the perfect hotel for your family?
