John Wayne/Santa Ana/OC Airport Under Construction

Postby Lorealle » Tue Oct 06, 2009 1:38 pm

Hey Everybody!

We just got word today that the SNA Airport is going to be undergoing some construction that will affect traffic- so make sure that if you are departing from SNA, that you arrive at least 90 minutes before your flight departs- and you should expect traffic delays.

Pile driving at John Wayne Airport will begin tomorrow morning and continue through the end of the year. Below is information regarding pile driving, travel tips during construction and the Airport Improvement Program.

As part of the John Wayne Airport Improvement Program, construction is underway on Terminal C and Parking Structure C. When complete, the new facilities will provide six new aircraft gates, a state-of-the-art passenger processing system, new screening checkpoints, three new baggage carousels, new food/beverage and news/gift concessions, and a new parking structure with over 2,000 additional parking spaces – all scheduled to open to the public in late 2011. JWA is also building a Central Utility Plant to generate electric power for the entire Terminal complex that will be complete in December 2010.

Construction Alert:
:: Pile driving – 7:00 am to 7:00 pm
:: Pile driving for the new terminal and parking structure will occur from October through the end of the year between the hours of 7:00 am and 7:00 pm. This activity will create noise and vibration at and in the vicinity of the Airport. We are making every effort to minimize impacts to our passengers and neighbors.

John Wayne Airport Travel Tips during construction:
:: Plan to arrive at the Airport 90 minutes prior to your flight departure time.
:: Visitors to the Airport may experience increased traffic on the roadways and will want to give themselves enough time to arrive, find parking, check-in and go through security screening.
:: Exercise caution on Airport roadways and adhere to posted speed limits.
:: Lane closures have been implemented on the Airport’s upper and lower roadways and will remain in place throughout construction. Speeds have been reduced to 15 mph in some areas and will be strictly enforced for the safety of passengers and construction site workers.

We look forward to providing Orange County with much needed new terminal and parking facilities and ask for your patience as we “Build on Excellence.”

Hope this helps!

Don't forget, Long Beach Airport is the same distance from HoJo's as is John Wayne Airport.

The main airline is Jet Blue, but Alaska also has a few flights, so that is another option. The easiest airport to get in and out from, and it is a straight drive from the airport exit to Harbor Boulevard. (Ball Road which changes names to Wardlow Road near the Long Beach Airport).
